Contraceptive Sterilization

Your physician may offer the following contraceptive procedures at Burdett Care Center :

Tubal ligation

Tubal ligation, often referred to as having your “tubes tied”, is a surgical procedure in which a woman's fallopian tubes are blocked, tied or cauterized to prevent eggs from reaching the uterus for fertilization. Tubal ligation is considered a permanent method of birth control.

Essure is a minimally invasive procedure in which your physician places soft, flexible inserts through the body’s natural pathways (vagina, cervix, and uterus) and into your fallopian tubes.
During the 3 months following the procedure, the body and the inserts work together to form a natural barrier that prevents sperm from reaching the egg. During this period, you must continue using another form of birth control (other than an IUD).

Adiana is a minimally invasive procedure that permanently prevents pregnancy. It works by stimulating your body's own tissue to grow in and around tiny, soft inserts that are placed inside your fallopian tubes.

A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure used by urologic surgeons to make a man sterile. It is one of the most popular forms of contraception, and is regarded as safe, simple and highly effective. A vasectomy is performed by cutting the vas deferens, the small tube that carries sperm from the man's testicles to become part of his semen.
